Back to Blog Written on 26-Jul-2009 by PhailanxSpotify have submitted an iPhone app for authorisation with Apple. At present, this will only be available to premium subscribers to their music service and follows the announcement of Last.fm's recent release of their new app. There is some great functionality to be launched with the app such as offline play by temporarily caching music from playlists.
There are concerns by some that Apple may disallow the app as it would directly compete with iTunes. However, Daniel Ek, chief executive and co-founder of Spotify, was keen to quash such speculation, stating: “We have a great relationship with Apple, think the iPhone is awesome and absolutely expect them to approve our app in the next few weeks.
"Apple has already approved several other music services such as Lastfm, Deezer and Pandora. We very much look forward to people being able to access their Spotify library wherever they might be and we've spent significant time and resources to ensure we've stuck to Apple's developer guidelines point by point.”

Awesome! Spotify are absolutely killing it at the moment though I should imagine that Apple are kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place about this one. They don't want to look stupid by denying it and don't want to lose sales if they approve it.

Definitely! With Spotify slowly conquering the online music world - what decision would you make if you were Apple!? You're right. Tough one.
Btw, is anyone subscribed to the SPotify premium service? What is it like? I'm only a freebie user but love it.
