Back to Blog Written on 19-Jul-2009 by PhailanxSpotify has been winning awards left, right and center this year and you may be asking why. Well, I'll tell you. It's slick, sexy and most importantly, it works brilliantly.
While using Spotify, I am yet to encounter a song that I couldn't find. No doubt more unique remixes will be hard to find, but as far as out of the box songs go, it seems a sturdy product. I've previously used Radio Blog Club and Seeqpod, but Spotify is the best product so far (in my opinion) for music choice. Some may say Last.fm is also an alternative, but I always found music to be a personal thing so sharing my tastes with friends never appealed to me (However, I do think that the concept of social networking and music is still very good). I'm keen to find out what Last.fm fans think of Spotify...
Spotify has a sleek interface similar to iTunes but the Spotify team have made it very simple to search and personalise your musical user experience. Not only can you search the web, but you can listen to the Spotify radio that plays music broken down by genre. The opportunties to expand this product are endless so it will be interesting to see how it moves forward.
Techcrunch named Spotify "Best Web application/service," "Best new startup" and "Europas Grand Prix," with Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon being named "Best Startup founders." Not a bad award ceremony for Spotify me thinks!
All being well, Spotify could be a groundbreaking way in how people use the internet in a more integrated way, and with the potential of this product, it could just be the beginning.
